  Synopsis A closed low over New Mexico will promote a chance for elevated showers and thunderstorms across the eastern half of AZ through this evening. A dry sub cloud layer will prevent any significant rainfall accumulations, and the primary impacts will be occasional lightning strikes, gusty winds, and blowing dust.   Current Conditions At 9:45AM MST, visible satellite imagery displayed a weak, small cluster of elevated showers and isolated thunderstorms in the Phoenix vicinity moving rapidly southeastward. July 21st - Conditions should continue to improve through the weekend

Overview:  Upper-level flow and shear patterns are finally favorable for marginally organized convective activity. However, moisture conditions are marginal for today. The NWS discussion made a great point about how the extreme temperatures we have experienced have allowed convective initiation to occur under less-than-ideal moisture conditions. The same should be true today. The limited moisture availability will likely mean a initiation later in the day. However, shear profiles today could mean that any storms may persist past nightfall.  Highest probabilities today/tonight will continue to be south and east of the Tucson area, although this activity could work into the metro area after sunset. Moisture conditions should improve tomorrow with more widespread and earlier initiation. August 30th: Chance for Storms this Evening in Southeastern AZ

  Synopsis CAMs are hinting at the possibility of a few showers and storms in the Tucson vicinity by this evening. Most activity will remain confined to the higher terrain this afternoon and evening with just enough moisture and instability to advertise a chance in Tucson. Hot temperatures will also continue this afternoon.   Current Conditions The 12z TUS sounding this morning measured a slightly better thermodynamic profile compared to yesterday with a weaker subsidence inversion near 500mb, around 300 J/kg of CAPE, and over 1500 J/kg of DCAPE.  12z TUS sounding courtesy of the SPC.
